For several years now, Xbox fans have been curious about possible updates to the achievement system – most notably the addition of an equivalent to PlayStation's 'Platinum' trophies to further incentivize game completion. Well, we have a new gamescom 2023 update thanks to Windows Central's Jez Corden, and some sort of overhaul appears to still be on Microsoft's to-do list.
Speaking of a recent episode of the Xbox Two, Corden said he spoke to someone at Microsoft last month about possible changes to achievements. The executive apparently said that Xbox “wants” to do something, but it is “a matter of priorities and time.”
“I spoke to an executive at Xbox at gamescom specifically about achieving platinum. They said they want to do it, it's just a matter of priorities and time. But I think the Xbox platinum achievement, improvements to the achievement system, will come – it's just a matter of getting past other things they want to do now.”
Although that's not the case. the most definitive answer to Jez's question, the thread still appears to be circulating at Microsoft and appears to be on the Xbox to-do list at some point.
