Despite his recent passing, the Sorcerer Supreme will return to amaze his fans: Marvel has announced that the character of Doctor Strange will return with a new miniseries early next year.
Marvel Comics: Doctor Strange will soon come back to life in a new miniseries
Just a year after his death in the miniseries “ The Death of Doctor Strange ”, Marvel has announced the return of the iconic sorcerer: the “ rebirth” is scheduled for next March. To bring the character back to life, as screenwriter, will be Jed MacKay himself, who wrote the aforementioned miniseries on death and its sequel, Strange, played by Clea, and illustrated by Pasqual Ferry, with cover by Alex Ross, who is even designing a new costume for the Sorcerer Supreme. No other members of the creative team were named in the announcement.
Here's how Marvel describes the new series:
Stephen Strange is back! After reuniting with Clea and Wong, everything is back to business as usual for the Sorcerer Supreme. Have your children fallen into a nightmarish sleep? Are demons invading your home? Is your husband possessed by a satanic entity? Then call Doctor Strange! But when someone else begins to exert their dark justice upon Strange's most powerful enemies, Strange embarks on an interdimensional journey in search of answers, only to discover that the culprit may be closer to home than you think...
In a statement announcing the new series, MacKay described how the launch fits into his overall plans for Marvel's master of the mystic arts:
After Death of Doctor Strange, after Strange, we open the next act in our current Sorcerer Supreme saga in DOCTOR STRANGE #1! It was truly exciting to have the opportunity to not only continue to explore the magical side of the Marvel Universe with the residents of 177A Bleecker Street, but also to follow the lives of the Stranges as the last year and a half has taken their toll on them. . Pasqual has put together a truly magical volume and I'm super excited to show people what's in store for Stephen and Clea Strange and of course we won't be giving them any break after recent events…
Ferry has instead shared some of his thoughts on the character :
When I started working for Marvel, there were three comics that I always wanted to draw: Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. Why Doctor Strange? Because his stories include all the elements that I love as an artist: fantasy, science fiction and imagination. Above all, being able to look at Steve Ditko's work for reference really motivates me! When he drew Doctor Strange, all the utopian and imaginary scenarios were incredible. So this is a very special moment in my career and I can't wait to see where the character takes us with this new narrative. I know a lot of artists, myself included, who find Doctor Strange a challenge, as if you need to add something new to the character because he gives you that chance. For me, Doctor Strange is a big challenge, but I accept it.
The first volume of this new miniseries dedicated to the Supreme Sorcerer will be available from March 22 both in paper and digital format . As soon as we have new information we will not fail to update you. In the meantime, we cannot fail to notice how DC Comics has also decided that March is a good month to present the new mini-series on Superman.
