The M2 Extreme SoC of the new Mac Pro could be very powerful

We know that Apple has been working for some time on its new Mac Pro, which will be the first to be based on Apple Silicon SoC, decreeing the complete transition from Intel x86 architecture to ARM. Undoubtedly, being a machine intended for professionals, the Mac Pro will be a particularly powerful desktop and the latest information about it, disseminated by Bloomberg's Marc Gurman through his newsletter, seems to confirm this.

Indeed, Gurman said that Mac Pro could be equipped with a new chip containing 48 CPU Cores and 152 GPU Cores, presumably called M2 Extreme, but the computer should also be marketed with M2 Ultra. The latter will be significantly less powerful, as it will have 24 CPU cores and 76 GPU cores. In both cases, the maximum amount of unified memory will be 256GB.

Last week we also reported the latest rumors concerning the Mac Mini, which will soon be renewed with M2 chip. According to reports from colleagues at 9to5Mac, in addition to an entry-level model with M2, Apple is working on a more powerful version of the Mac Mini, codenamed J474, which should be equipped with a faster M2 Pro chip than the M2 featured in MacBook Air and iPad Pro, equipped with a 12-core CPU. The same SoC is also expected to make its appearance in the future 14 "and 16" MacBook Pros that have been rumored for some time.
