AMD is not idle

As noted by everyone since the various pre-launch rumors and news, the new Intel Raptor Lake series of CPUs has considerably raised the number of cores on almost all models: starting from 10 cores already on Core i5-13400, yet to be announced, moving from 14 cores on the Core i5-13600K, to finish with the 16 cores of the i7-13700K and the 24 cores of the Core i9-13900K. This advantage has allowed the Santa Clara-based company to excel in various areas, as shown by the first benchmarks after its release. AMD, which instead decided to keep the number of processing units in its Ryzen 7000 unchanged, seems to be working on a first response to the Intel lineup: the Ryzen 7 7800X, recently leaked on Geekbench, would include 10 cores and 20 threads.

Similarly to the 7900X, the Ryzen 7 7800X would make use of two CCDs, which would however include 5 cores and 32MB of L3 cache each, for a total of 10 cores and 64MB of cache. The specimen leaked on the Geekbench website has an operating frequency that starts at 4.5 GHz, to reach 5.4 GHz in boost. Since the CPU has not yet been officially announced, AMD hasn't said a word about availability and price, but judging by the generally lower performance of its younger Ryzen 7 7700X sibling over the Core i7-13700K, we can expect the company to position the new Ryzen 7 7800X between € 450 and € 500, possibly lowering the price of the 8-core model in order to bring it closer to that of the i5-13600K. With these specifications, the 7800X recorded a multi-threaded score of 16163 points, with which it ranks between the 7900X and 7700X, thanks to the higher number of cores.
