The Core i9-13900K far outperforms the i9-12900K in early tests

The presentation, and subsequent debut on the market, of the thirteenth generation Intel Core processors, known by the code name "Raptor Lake", is getting closer and closer, so much so that several samples are already in the hands of manufacturers and industry experts.

Recall that, compared to the previous generation, Alder Lake, the new CPUs will offer greater performance through some important changes, such as the maximum number of cores, increased to 8P + 16E. Additionally, the P-cores have been upgraded with a higher IPC and L2 cache, while the E-cores feature a larger L2 cache. From a performance point of view, there is talk of a 15% improvement on single-threaded workloads and up to 41% in multi-threaded ones.

Apparently, according to the results of the first inherent benchmarks to an example of Core i9-13900K that appeared on the Chinese forum Bilibili, the performance jump compared to the previous flagship model, the Core i9-12900K, will be noticeable. Spec-wise, the new Core i9-13900K features a peak boost clock of 5.8GHz on cores 1 and 2, while cores 3-8 max out at 5.5GHz. Furthermore, the E-cores can now go up to 4.3GHz (compared to the 3.7GHz of the Core i9-12900K), despite the fact that the number of cores has doubled. In addition to this, the cache latency has also been decreased.

Intel Raptor Lake-P Moving on to the benchmarks conducted on Cinebench R15, R20 and R23, the Core i9-13900K achieved 12.5% higher performance than the Core i9-12900KF in single thread tests with the P -cores active, while E-cores saw a 16% increase. In multi thread there was even an average increase of 48%, an undoubtedly exceptional result. In other tests too, including 7z file compression and decompression, encryption, and various 3DMark benchmarks, the Raptor Lake processor outperformed its predecessor by an average of 41%. In terms of gaming, overall the Core i9-13900K was over 10% faster than the Core i9-12900KF.
