Joker 2
The indiscretion had been circulating for months but now the official confirmation of the direct interested has arrived: Lady Gaga will be the co-star of Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the film dedicated to the genesis of the number one villain of Batman, played on the screen by Joaquin Phoenix. The announcement took place through a very short animated teaser shared on the singer's social profiles: with in the background a cover of the song Cheek to Cheek, which Gaga had sung in the past with Tony Bennett, you can see the silhouettes of Arthur Fleck played by Phoenix and of a woman in a long dress rejoining in a passionate two-way step:Twitter content This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.
Although the clip gives substance to the rumors spread in recent weeks, does not confirm the other part of the theory according to which Gaga should play in the film none other than Harley Quinn, historical companion and inevitable shoulder of the Joker. While this detail is actually missing, it is unlikely that the pop star was chosen to play a different character. Already the title of the sequel, Folie à Deux, refers to a precise clinical condition according to which a psychic disorder of an individual is transmitted to a second person for reasons of relationship or closeness. And who better than Harley Quinn, a psychiatrist who has gone to the dark side, could form an exquisitely insane couple with Joker?
The same character of Harley Quinn, moreover, has become central in the various projects taken from the Dc Comics comics: originally created for the Batman animated series of the nineties, it has subsequently become canonical also in comics, arriving at the cinema played by Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad but also on television with the irreverent animated series for adults in which she has the voice of Kaley Cuoco. Now Lady Gaga would give the face to yet another incarnation of her, adding this over the top role to a film career that has recently become very lively, including exploits such as A Star Is Born and House of Gucci. Pending further revelations, Joker: Folie à Deux is set for release in theaters in October 2024.
Lady Gaga Confirms ‘Joker 2’ Role Opposite Joaquin Phoenix, Out in 2024
Lady Gaga has finally confirmed that she will co-star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming Joker sequel.
A day after Warner. Bros announced that Joker: Folie à Deux will arrive Oct. 4, 2024 — exactly five years after the first film’s release — the singer affirmed her long-rumored co-starring role in the movie in a tweet:
The teaser is soundtracked by a big band rendition of the pop standard “Cheek to Cheek,” a song that lends its title to Lady Gaga’s first duet album with Tony Bennett. (Similarly ironic, the last time Gaga appeared on the big screen, 2021’s House of Gucci, it was alongside another Joker, Jared Leto.)
However, Gaga did not reveal which character she’ll be playing in the upcoming sequel: It’s rumored — but unconfirmed — that she will star as the Joker universe’s version of Harley Quinn, a prison psychiatrist who, after treating the Joker, joins him in his chaotic crime sprees; the film’s subtitle, Folie à Deux, is a French term for an identical mental disorder that affects two different people. (Margot Robbie portrays the same character in the DC Cinematic Universe, which is separate from both Joker and The Batman [which also has its own Joker, played by Barry Keoghan].)
Also unconfirmed — but heightened by the teaser — are rumors that there are musical elements to the Todd Phillips-directed sequel, as compared to its gritty, Scorsese-inspired predecessor.
News of the Joker sequel’s release date in part softened the blow to DC movie fans following news that the already-filmed Batgirl movie won’t be released in any capacity following a shift in strategy at the recently merged Warner Bros Discovery.
