Porsche 918 Spyder vs KTM RC16

The Porsche 918 Spyder is one of the fastest production cars ever made, and over the years it has been pitted against a host of rivals; this time, to make the race even more interesting, we chose to have the 918 race against a bike, but not just any bike, but a KTM RC16 of the Red Bull team that raced in MotoGP in the 2021 season - riding this beast at 2 wheels there was none other than Dani Pedrosa, former MotoGP rider.

We have to thank CarWow for organizing this interesting challenge: on the one hand we have the Porsche 918 Spyder, powered by a 4.6 liter displacement V8 engine supported by 2 electric motors for a total of 890 horsepower and 1280 Nm of torque, and on the other hand we have a KTM RC16 from MotoGP with a 1000cc engine and 270 horsepower, but with a total weight of just 200 kg. The 918 Spyder is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 in 2.1 seconds, will that be enough to beat the KTM?

The result was repeated almost always identical to itself in all the races held, and therefore an attempt was made to give the 918 an advantage, to understand how much faster the KTM is compared to the Porsche: despite the moving start at 65 km / h in second gear, while the KTM was traveling at the same speed but in fifth gear, the result at the end of the sprint remained the same, the MotoGP still has enough power and torque to pick up speed in fifth gear and beat the very powerful Porsche hybrid.

Can a KTM MotoGP bike beat a Porsche 918 in a drag race?

Who doesn’t love a good drag race?

The premise is simple; lights go green, throttles are twisted, pedals are plunged and then the horses start galloping. There are different connotations, but as far as we know Ru Paul wasn’t involved in this latest showdown… but don’t quote us on that.

Point is, at a time of eco-conscious frugality, sometimes you just want to let it all hang out for a few seconds.

With this in mind, the old motorcycle versus car set-up is a well worn trope but now and again you get a particularly mouth-watering duo going up against each other.

So, courtesy of carwow, we have the Porsche 918 Spyder - a car so super they named it a hypercar - boasting a 4.7-litre 600bhp V8 engine plus two electric motors that up the power figures to an eye-watering 885bhp. In short, it’s swift.

Over in the orange corner is the KTM RC16 MotoGP that competed in the Austrian firm’s maiden season of MotoGP in 2017. It comes with a 1000cc V4 engine capable of 270hp, revs to 18,500rpm and has the stickiest Michelin tyres

So it’s a fair chunk lighter at 157kg and benefits from the lightning quick reflexes of legend Dani Pedrosa keeping the changes smooth under acceleration, but can a MotoGP bike with more than 600hp less than the Porsche with electric-propelled instant torque really out-run it in a good old fashioned drag race.

Well, as they say, there’s only one way to find out…
