Last week AMD had issued a press release where the info regarding the specifications of socket AM5 power supply. The new platform can in fact deliver a maximum power of 230W, supporting a TDP of 170W. During the podcast held by PCWorld, AMD's Robert Hallock & Frank Azor also confirmed that the CPU shown at Computex 2022, a specimen with a maximum frequency of 5.5 GHz on most of its 16 cores, performed below the TDP of 170W.

These frequencies will obviously only be reachable on the top-of-the-range motherboards with X670E chipset, equipped with the VRMs needed to manage the power requirements of the new CPUs. In any case, this seems to be just the beginning of a GHz race on maximum frequencies. It is more than likely that in the near future the two main CPU manufacturers will propose models where the 6 GHz wall will be reached and exceeded.
Recall that the Ryzen 7000 are expected for launch after the summer, in a period close to that of Raptor Lake CPUs, which according to recent rumors should arrive in autumn.
