Nikkei’s Asia operations unit, a media giant, was hit by a ransomware attack on May 13. To detect the incident, an internal control system that discovered unauthorized access to one of the servers of the company's Singapore office. The server was deactivated immediately, along with other measures to minimize the impact of the attack on the organization's operations. The investigations are still ongoing, so it is not known whether the hackers managed to gain access to the data of the Nikkei customers they were likely targeting. In any case, there appears to have been no data leaks.
