Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong showcases RPG gameplay in another new trailer
Nacon has dropped the second Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong gameplay trailer in as many weeks.
This time around, we get a closer insight into the RPG mechanics of the game. Given that developers Big Bad Wolf were previously responsible for The Council, they’ve got plenty of experience blending narrative with RPG. This time around, of course, they have the playground of the World of Darkness tabletop series to form their story.
To that end, your three characters will get to use a range of skills inspired by the pen-and-paper version. These skills will allow them to tackle situations in a variety of ways, depending on the vampire you’re controlling. Each character will also have access to vampiric-specific abilities, known as Disciplines.
For example, Galeb can use Fortitude to try and protect himself from physical assaults and the powers of enemy vampires. Emem is described as the most stylish, and can use Celerity to access areas that others cannot. Finally, Leysha can conceal her presence with Obfuscate. Players can then upgrade these powers with experience points to give them additional features.
Interestingly, NPCs will also have their own character sheets complete with their own strengths and weaknesses too. That means some characters will be better at defending against certain skills, and a die roll will determine if an action fails or succeeds.
