The Texan tuner Hennessey continues to work hard in search of a speed record with his Venom F5: recently during a test carried out at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Ground in Florida, the Hennessey Venom F5 reached 437 km / h. speed, but still not enough.

In recent months Hennessey has made the latest modifications to its Venom F5, and last February the car was taken to Florida, on the airstrip that was once used by NASA for the Space Shuttle. The intent of the tests was to adjust the suspension, brakes and aerodynamics, but in the end it was also decided to do a small top speed test hitting 271.6mph.

During the run it has brought the car to more than 430 km / h the Venom F5 showed absolutely amazing stability: it goes without saying that this landing strip is very smooth and well finished, but the car was able to absorb all the small imperfections of the terrain without particular difficulties, and without the need for the driver to remain attached to the steering wheel to keep the car straight.

These impressive speeds are possible thanks to the engine installed on the Hennessey Venom F5: it is a 6.6 liter twin turbine V8 capable of producing 1817 horsepower and 1617 Nm of torque, and is combined with a gearbox 7-speed semi-automatic with rear-wheel drive. Thanks to this equipment, the Venom F5 sprints from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 3 seconds, and from 0 to 200 km / h in 4.7 seconds.

Hennessey Venom F5 Hits 271.6 MPH As Pursuit Of 300 MPH Continues

The potent Hennessey Venom F5 has been driven to 271.6 mph (437 km/h) during a recent round of testing at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Ground in Florida.

The Texas tuner and car manufacturer has been putting the final touches to the Venom F5 in recent months and in February, headed to the Florida runway where NASA used to land the space shuttle. It was primarily there to finish calibrations of the suspension, brakes, and aerodynamics when it decided to push the hypercar and managed to hit 271.6 mph (437 km/h).

Hennessey has long been targeting a 300+ mph top speed for the Venom F5 and in this video, John Hennessey says that this still remains a target. However, it is currently focused on building customer cars and starting deliveries of the Venom F5 and according to the firm’s boss, will take a little break from high-speed runs. Moreover, according to John Hennessey, the company could deliver up to 12 Venom F5s this year.

During the run where the car hit 271.6 mph, it’s hard not to be impressed with just how stable it appears. Of course, the runway is very smooth, but the car seems to soak up all imperfections in the road very well and the driver doesn’t have to fight with the steering wheel at all. By hitting 271.6 mph, the Venom F5 eclipses the 270.4 mph (435.1 km/h) top speed of its predecessor, the Venom GT.

Allowing the car to hit such remarkable speeds is a twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V8 pumping out 1,817 hp and 1,193 lb-ft (1,617 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to a seven-speed semi-automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels, helping the Venom F5 hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in under three seconds and 124 mph (200 km/h) in a blistering 4.7 seconds.
