Gamescom 2022: it will be done live! Here are the dates

Gamescom 2022

Gamescom needs no introduction: it is the largest videogame themed fair in all of Europe both for the number of visitors and exhibitors, and every year it attracts fans not only from all over Europe, but also from the world. After months of doubts and uncertainties about how this year's edition would take place, it's finally official: Gamescom 2022 will be held in attendance!

It was now for two consecutive years that the beloved and highly anticipated fair was held only online, and the reasons for this are known to all: the Covid-19 pandemic, in fact, has put a stake to almost the entire sector, preventing the realization of such events, which therefore had to migrate in full to online soil. Finally the situation has begun to unlock, and even the very famous German event reopens its doors to the public in attendance.

The return of Gamescom is great news for the entire gamer community, and a sign that finally, slowly, things are starting to get back to normal. And you? Will you participate in this highly anticipated return of the largest videogame fair in Europe? What do you expect to see? Please let us know with a comment in the section below!

Horizon Forbidden West was announced in the last edition of Gamescom, which debuted a few weeks ago and is now on sale on Amazon.

Gamescom 2022 sees the show return as a hybrid digital & physical event this August

Organisers have confirmed Gamescom 2022 will include an in-person event in Cologne for the first time in two years this August.

The event’s organisers confirmed today that the show will go ahead with a hybrid physical and digital model. The physical event will take place at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany between August 24 to August 28. Of course, the event will go ahead with extensive hygiene and safety protocols in place. These include digital queue management, extra wide aisles and limited ticketing, where appropriate.

Accompanying the physical event will be the return of a digital version on a special Gamescom Now website. Virtual attendees will be able to participate in interactive quests that will also include rewards from exhibitors and sponsors. Once more, the online event will also include shows like Opening Night Live hosted by Geoff Keighley.

Gamescom first had to cancel in-person events back in 2020 as the global coronavirus pandemic first started shutting down games conventions. A similar hybrid system to the one announced today was planned for last year’s Gamescom back in March 2021. However, the show wound up reverting to a digital-only model a few months later.

The show’s organisers have also declared that this year’s Gamescom will be more environmentally friendly. The ‘Gamescom Goes Green’ project means that the show will include a number of measures to reduce emissions from the show, including e-charging stations, bikes and all-virtual tickets. The organisers are also inviting people to make a voluntary donation via a ‘green ticket’ to help raise money for a wind power project in Brazil and clean cooking stoves in Nigera.
