Elden Ring: video compares graphics on PS5, Xbox Series X | S and PC with Patch 1.02

Elden Ring

ElAnalistaDeBits has published a new video dedicated to Elden Ring, in which it compares the graphics and performance of the PS5, Xbox Series X, Series S and PC versions with patch 1.02 applied, which you can view in the player above.

For the sake of completeness, the youtuber states that his configuration mounts an RTX 3080 and 32GB and running the game at 2160p. Here are the details on resolution and framerate for the console versions:

PS5

2160p at 30fps 1620p at 60fps

Series S

1440pp at 30fps 1080p at 60fps

Series X

2160p at 30fps 1620p at 60fps

The results of AnalistaDeBits analysis on Elden Ring are basically in line with those shared by Digital Foundry and of which we already talked in detail yesterday. So also in his opinion the PS5 version in performance mode can boast a framerate generally higher than that of the Xbox Series X, which however has VRR on its side, as well as he would have preferred the possibility of blocking the framerate at 30fps with the Quality mode, which otherwise it fluctuates between 30 and 60 fps, with obviously unsightly results. According to ElAnalistaDeBits, the performance modes for consoles would also have benefited from a lowering of the resolution to 1440p in favor of a more stable framerate.

Like Digital Foundry, the youtuber also noticed framerate problems on PC when changing areas or during clashes. In the video we can also see that an Nvme m.2 SSD guarantees faster loading times than PS5.

In the meantime Bandai Namco with an official post apologized to users for the problems of the launch of Elden Ring and promised the arrival of patches.

'Elden Ring': How to Summon Co-Op Partners Into Your Game and Invite Friends

Like all of its FromSoftware stablemates, Elden Ring doesn't hold your hand.

The tutorials are limited, vital plot information is buried within random item descriptions and it's not immediately apparent how you are supposed to level up. This is par for the course when it comes to the Soulsborne genre (which Elden Ring firmly belongs to), as that sense of mystery is what people like about the experience.

There's something intensely rewarding about discovering the various secrets for yourself and figuring out how the game's obscure systems actually work.

That being said, it can be a little frustrating when you don't even know how to do basic things like inviting a friend to join a co-op session. After all, Elden Ring is punishingly difficult, and you might find that you are in need of a helping hand to slay the more formidable bosses.

To clear things up, Newsweek has prepared a short guide that tells you everything you need to know about summoning co-op partners in this new release.

How to Play 'Elden Ring' Online

First thing's first, you will obviously need to be connected to the internet if you want to play Elden Ring with friends.

You can check your network status on the game's main menu, where a bit of text in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen reveals if you are 'Online' or if you are 'Offline.'

If for some reason, you started the game without connecting to the Bandai Namco servers (either because you wanted to ease yourself into things before playing online, were experiencing network issues, or still had to download the update) then you can always manually change this by heading into the relevant settings page.

This can be accessed on the main menu, by clicking on the 'System' button. From there, navigate to the fourth tab (represented by a globe symbol), where all of the network settings can be found. As a quick side note, you will need to restart the game for any changes to take effect.

How Co-Op Works in 'Elden Ring'

Even the most standard gameplay features are quite convoluted in Elden Ring. This is amply demonstrated by its bizarre approach to multiplayer, which requires you to find various in-game items before you can join others on a quest.

In a nutshell, you can summon other players into your game for a temporary period only. They will remain by your side until you either die or beat the nearest boss together.

If you want to reunite after that, you will need to repeat the steps for summoning them all over again. These are detailed below.

How to Summon Another Player in 'Elden Ring'

If you want to just summon a random helper from the internet, then you must first consume an elixir known as the 'Furlcalling Finger Remedy.'

These are one-use items that you will need to stockpile if you plan on doing a lot of co-op sessions. You can find them by looting random dead bodies, trading with merchants or crafting them yourself. The latter is probably the easiest method, as the only requisite ingredients are two erdleaf flowers, which are themselves dotted all over the world in hedges.

Once you have consumed a Furlcalling Finger Remedy, previously invisible summoning signs will be revealed to you. These look like a series of glyphs that have been etched into the floor.

If the signs are yellow, then the person you are inviting to your game will be friendly. If they are red, then you will be challenging them to a duel. Either way, you will need to interact with the glyph to summon them.

There is also a separate method for inviting people to your game if you are scouring an optional dungeon. In these areas, you will find 'summoning pools' (which look like tiny little stone effigies of a hooded man) to interact with. Here, you will be presented with a list of potential co-op partners to recruit into your party.

In most games, like Dying Light 2 for example, playing with a buddy is relatively straightforward. All you have to do is find them in your friends list and then send over an invite.

As you might have guessed, the process is not so streamlined in Elden Ring. If you want to be more selective about who you are summoning, then you will need to create a private password.

To do this, open up the pause menu (which incidentally does not pause the game like you might assume) and navigate down to the 'Multiplayer' option.

From there, press the designated 'Settings' button, which is Y on an Xbox controller and triangle on PlayStation. A text field will then appear, into which you can type any random combination of characters.

If your friend repeats the exact same steps and inputs the exact same password, then you will only be able to play cooperatively together. All other summon signs will be filtered out and you will be able to find each other more easily.

How to Leave a Summon Sign in 'Elden Ring'

If you fancy being a good Samaritan and lending assistance to other players, then you must leave behind your own summoning sign.

To do this, you will need to use the 'Tarnished Furled Finger' totem, which can be found by looting the corpse at the Stranded Graveyard staircase. Bundled together with this item, you will also get the 'Finger Severer,' which allows you to disconnect from the host's server if you want to end co-op.

It's important to consider where you place your summon sign, as you will be called to help players in that immediate vicinity. With that in mind, if you want to team up against a specific boss, it's best to use the Tarnished Furled Finger right outside the nearest arena.

Elden Ring is available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and PC.
