Super Mario Movie
Fans were amazed in the last Nintendo Direct when Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto suddenly appeared in front of the camera. He took the opportunity to reveal more details about the upcoming Super Mario movie. Together with Illumination, the animation studio behind the Minions, we have been working on the project since 2017. The film is now slated to hit cinemas in the United States on December 21, 2022. Shigeru Miyamoto - who is also involved as a producer on Super Mario - also introduced the first speakers, who will give voice to the animated characters from the Nintendo universe. In the lead role of Mario, fans in the US original can look forward to Chris Pratt. The actor is currently best known for his appearances on Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World. We will hear Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. The actress was recently nominated for her leading role in "The Ladies' Gambit" at the Emmys. Luigi is voiced by Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia).Another highlight is the cast of Bowser. Here Nintendo has opted for Jack Black. Seth Rogen can also be heard as Donkey Kong in the film. Comedian Keegan-Michael Key will voice Toad. According to Miyamoto, Mario speaks a lot more as a protagonist than we are used to from the games. Charles Martinet, who is otherwise used as a spokesman for Mario and many other characters, will receive a surprising cameo. Other cast members: Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. First footage from the film was not shown during Nintendo Direct.

The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' actor will voice Mario, the tubby Italian plumber who changed the world of video games with the release of 'Super Mario Bros.' 36 years ago, Nintendo announced on Twitter on Thursday.
The film will also star 'The Queen's Gambit' star Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia''s Charlie Day as Mario's brother Luigi, and Jack Black as villain Bowser.
None of the cast is Italian -- something that has sparked fierce debate and countless jokes on social media. Whether the actors will adopt Italian accents is unknown, but in a video posted to Instagram, Pratt said he had been 'working hard' on the character's voice.
Pratt also reflected that the role was a dream come true, saying he often played the arcade game as a child.
The animated film, teased in 2017, will hit theaters in North America in December 2022, Nintendo said.
