The successes of the Rimac Nevera continue on the quarter mile, a particular acceleration race that has already seen the new Croatian hypercar excel several times. The latest challenge organized by DragTimes, which you can find at the bottom of this article, puts her in front of another queen of speed, the Model S Plaid signed by Tesla. And not even the latest Californian flagship can do it, as it is beaten in all head-to-head tests on the straight. The Rimac Nevera regularly (and sensationally) keeps under 9 seconds, although the gap with Tesla's rival is not huge considering the performance differences.
It should be remembered that Rimac's hypercar has almost double the of Model S Plaid horsepower plus an extra engine. Not to mention the different design (and therefore the performance) at the base of the two cars. One is a very exclusive limited series model with track performance, the other is a luxury sedan upgraded to also offer (emphasis on "also") supercar performance. Probably, if the same Nevera were faced with the racing version of the Model S Plaid, the results would be different.
Returning to the video, you can see how the Tesla flagship sprints in the first test in front of the rival Rimac but is immediately picked up by the opponent. Here the differences in the quarter mile emerge that depend on the drivers and on the skill, read experience, gained in this type of racing. But over the distance of 400 meters, inevitably, the greater power and the lower weight show all their importance. It does not matter whether it is electric or thermal: the car with more horsepower and that weighs less will always have a distinct advantage.
We are waiting to see which model will be able to beat the Nevera in acceleration but it will probably take some time before we see an antagonist at the height. Congratulations to Rimac, therefore, for having created an electric car that is truly out of the ordinary starting from aesthetics, passing through performance and naturally arriving at the price (two million euros).
