Destiny 2: More details about the reveal event of The Witch Queen

Destiny 2

It has been known since last month that a major reveal event for the online shooter Destiny 2 will take place on August 24, 2021 - i.e. next Tuesday. Then the development studio Bungie will present the next big expansion called "The Witch Queen" with its new content and features in more detail. Additional details about the event are now known.

As Bungie announced via Twitter, the starting shot will be given on August 24, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. German time. You can follow the event on the official Twitch channel of the online shooter as a live stream. A pre-show begins an hour beforehand - i.e. from 5:00 p.m. - but the developers have not yet revealed any further details. It is conceivable that Bungie will first take a look at the recent past of Destiny 2 (buy now 14.96 €), before it then focuses on the new expansion "The Witch Queen" in the main show. It is possible that during the reveal event there will not only be numerous details about the content of the new add-on, but also a specific release date.

The release of "The Witch Queen" was originally planned for later this year. However, due to the continuing rampant corona pandemic and the associated effects, Bungie noticed relatively quickly that the work on the expansion was taking more time than initially thought. In order to protect the health of its own employees and to achieve the quality level expected by many fans, the team finally decided to postpone the release to the year 2022.

Don’t Expect A ‘Destiny 2’ Halo Collab In Next Week’s Witch Queen Showcase

Halo/Destiny

343/Bungie

Time to burst some bubbles. While there is plenty to be hyped about regarding the upcoming August 24 Witch Queen presentation by Bungie, showcasing probably not just that expansion, but also other Destiny and Bungie news, there’s one thing you should not expect there.

The long-rumored Destiny 2-Halo collaboration.

Sources familiar with the situation (or lack thereof) tell me that no, despite the Microsoft Xbox showcase airing a few hours after the Witch Queen presentation, there is no Halo content in the August 24 Bungie showcase.

This is addressing a rumor that spawned from a lengthy list of leaks in the Destiny 2 community, a list that has seen many items come true from it, so people believe that the entire thing is gospel.

I guess you could consider this potential spoilers if this does come to pass, but there have been a range of rumors about Halo content coming to Destiny 2 as a crossover before Halo Infinite. I’ve heard about the Halo OG pistol and the Gravity Hammer arriving as exotics in Destiny, Spartan-themed armor ornaments, and even a dungeon that takes place on a Halo Ring.

Halo Infinite

I cannot guarantee these things will never come to Destiny, but nothing like that will be revealed in the August 24 Witch Queen show. The impression I’m getting in addition to that, though I can’t say this for certain, is that this is not like developed content already. While there is the possibility that something could manifest in the future, as Bungie has obvious connections to its former franchise, and Phil Spencer is a massive Destiny fan, if that does happen, it’s not getting announced at this show.

This does not rule out any other potential Xbox news. I didn’t hear anything about this, but it stands to reason we could see The Witch Queen coming to Xbox Game Pass or Destiny getting on PC Game Pass at last. That news could be at the Bungie or Xbox show. But Halo Ring dungeons and Gravity Hammer exotics? No.

Some of these rumors seemed more believable than others when I heard them. A sidearm inspired by the classic Halo pistol? Sure. An entire dungeon set in a Halo Ring? I mean maybe, but not sure how you’d bend the lore for that. Regardless, it would certainly be cool if this did happen, and if enough Destiny and Halo fans expressed interest in it, maybe it still could. But it does not seem as imminent as the recent “leak” was claiming, if it ultimately happens at all.

August 24 should certainly still be a hype-generating event for Destiny 2 players. Every Bungie employee I’ve seen is doing a countdown to the reveal. The Witch Queen itself will be a big deal, and the showcase is likely going to be our first real look at the events of season 15, which starts an hour after this show. I also imagine there could be Destiny franchise news for its expansion into multimedia, or perhaps larger Bungie news as the studio expands.

But yeah, don’t wait for Master Chief to show up next week. My guess is you’ll just see him in the Xbox showcase, finally announcing the Halo Infinite release date.
