The first film dedicated to Superman played by Henry Cavill, that is The Man of Steel, was the cinecomic that officially started the DC Expanded Universe, then continued with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, including the revised and corrected version of the latter reassembled by Snyder himself. However, Clark Kent's alter ego with the Cavill face seems to have been "frozen" by Warner Bros., with the American production company willingness to experiment with other versions of the hero born between the pages of DC comics.
Now, screenwriter David S. Goyer has given a lengthy interview to the Hollywood Reporter (here the original news) in which he talked about several projects he has collaborated on in the past, including of course the debut of the new Kryptonian hero on the great screen and released in 2013 (here on offer on Amazon) and a possible sequel much desired by fans but which unfortunately never received the green light from Warner.
According to his point of view, Goyer he thinks a sequel to The Man of Steel could actually still materialize, with Cavill again in the role of the iconic protagonist, although at the moment he has admitted that he is not involved in any specific project. The author has in fact confirmed that he has moved away almost entirely from projects related to comic book characters, with the exception of Sandman, in any case something very different from the "normal" universe of DC heroes.
The only certain news is that Sasha Calle will wear Supergirl's tights and cloak in The Flash coming out in 2022, although at the moment it is not clear if the character she plays will be somehow related to the Cavill's Kal-El / Clark Kent or maybe he's from another multiverse. But not only: J.J. Abrams is in the process of producing a new Superman film made in collaboration with American writer and author Ta-Nehisi Coates.
