Forza Motorsport 7: Racing Game will soon be gone forever

Forza Motorsport 7

Almost four years after the launch of Forza Motorsport 7, the Turn 10 racing game will disappear forever from the Microsoft Store for PC and Xbox. The makers announced this on the blog. Means: As early as September 15, 2021, the main game and all DLC can no longer be purchased digitally. However, all racers who own the title will still be able to download and play Forza Motorsport 7 as normal. Multiplayer will also remain active.

The racing game will also no longer be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers. If you have bought a DLC of the title - through your membership - for Forza Motorsport 7 in the past, you will soon receive a token from Microsoft via the Xbox Message Center with which you can continue to use the game. You should have received the token by August 2, 2021 at the latest. If this is not the case, customers can also contact Microsoft support. Those responsible are currently offering Forza Motorsport 7 at a high discount. Until it is switched off, the racing game is available for 9.99 euros. The Deluxe Edition costs 12.49 euros - the Ultimate Edition is 19.99 euros.

The makers do not give a reason for the shutdown, but it should have something to do with the licenses - like it has also been the case more often with other games. A successor for Xbox Series X / S and PC is already in development. But there is no release yet. On November 9, 2021, Forza Horizon 5 will initially be another part of the spin-off series. This time the racing drivers are allowed to drive through virtual Mexico.

Forza Motorsport 7 is dead, long live Forza Motorsport

I've always been a bit of a sucker for the Forza Motorsport franchise, so much so that I even worked on one of the games (Forza 4 ftw). Now I'm sad to say that according to an announcement by Turn 10 Studios on Thursday, Forza Motorsport 7 is at the end of its life.

What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means that after Sept. 15, the game and all of its DLC will no longer be available for purchase. Those who have already bought the game and DLC will get to keep playing it, and online content like Rivals will still be available.

If you got access to the game through Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass and purchased DLC, you will get an online token to download a copy of the game for keeps, though that token will stop working after Sept. 15, so you should probably not wait to download stuff. If you're all of a sudden curious about the game after reading this, you can buy the game for $9.99 through the Microsoft store.

Forza Motorsport 7 is going away, but we'll miss it (until its successor comes out).

Forza 7 made its debut in June of 2017 and was also the debut of the 991-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The game offered a ton of cool features like dynamic weather and customizable drivers. It also provided upward of 700 vehicles to drive on over 30 circuits. In short, it was a pretty big deal, especially for those of us who didn't have PlayStations.

Microsoft announced Forza 7's replacement -- titled simply Forza Motorsport -- back in 2020, but we're still waiting for a release date.
