The chimera of the official LEGO LED kits to illuminate the sets

Suddenly appearing on the official LEGO social channels (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook) earlier this month, the mysterious teaser that heralded the LEGO CON had rekindled the curiosity of the enthusiast people for the official LEGO LED kits, which had been somehow tested. (we tell you everything below in the article) at the beginning of 2020.

Instead, nothing to do, the announcement was about something else. It is likely that for a certain period of time the only possibility to illuminate our sets and our creations will be to turn to third parties who already sell really excellent products today. Let's go and rediscover the history of Night Mode kits together?

Once upon a time there were Night Mode kits

It was January 2020, when during the annual edition of the international event LEGO World Copenhagen some visitors published on some of the social media most followed by brick enthusiasts, photos and posts about alleged official LEGO LED kits called Night Mode and made specifically for some sets (we talked about it in our article). >

A few hours after the discovery and the explosion of comments on the net, the Lead User Lab team had to intervene to explain that unfortunately it was only a test to evaluate the potential appreciation by enthusiasts, collectors and customers in general for official LEGO LED kits to use to light up the sets. The boxes on display were in fact simple demonstration mockups and the sets equipped with lighting were made with third-party LED kits. In fact, it seems that LEGO had already understood for some time that the lighting of the sets is very, very interesting for the adult fan community. As far as we know, the answer seems to have been great and just as great was the feedback from consumers.

Regarding the prices for the LEGO LED kits offered at the time of the LEGO World Copenhagen, the following were assumed:

329 DKK (about 46 euros) for the kit dedicated to the LEGO Creator Expert # 10265 Ford Mustang set (click on the link to see and buy the set) 649 DKK (about 87 euros) ) for the kit dedicated to the LEGO Ideas set # 21318 House on the Tree (click on the link to see and buy the set) 619 DKK (about 86 euros) for the kit dedicated to the LEGO Creator Expert # 10260 D owntown Diner set (click on the link to see and buy the set) 1,449 DKK (about 194 euros) for the kit dedicated to the LEGO Harry Potter set # 71043 Hogwarts Castle (click on the link to see and buy the set)

The competition

LEGO it will find itself competing for this particular market niche with fierce Asian and European competitors . In fact, a whole series of third parties has been dedicating themselves to lighting the sets of enthusiasts and collectors for quite some time. In the editorial office we tried the lighting kits produced by GameOfBricks and Lightailing. Meanwhile, another company has made its appearance in the LED kit sector: it is LightMyBricks.
