The Last Jedi is the only Star Wars movie where a character says the title

Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues to be a subject of much debate with Star Wars fans, arguably even more so than The Rise of Skywalker despite that also proving divisive among the fanbase.

But whether you're all for Rian Johnson's sequel trilogy outing or vehemently against it, there's one aspect of The Last Jedi that can't be denied: it holds a unique record in the Skywalker Saga.

The Last Jedi is in fact the only Star Wars movie that sees a character say the name of the movie – so cue up your Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme for the next time you watch the middle part of the sequel trilogy.

Now, of course, they don't use the full title, because Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a tricky thing to fit into conversation, but 'the last Jedi' is said by Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren during their final confrontation.

'The Resistance is dead. The war is over. And when I kill you, I will have killed the last Jedi,' taunts Kylo Ren, only for Luke to sassily retort:

'Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong. The Rebellion is reborn today. The war is just beginning. And I will not be the last Jedi.'

Of course, the title of every Star Wars movie appears in the movie in the opening crawl, but The Last Jedi is the only time that it's shown in the crawl and is used in context during the movie by a character.

The fact comes from the upcoming release of Titan Comics' Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga book which goes into the making of all nine movies and features interviews with the cast and crew of every movie, as well as behind-the-scenes imagery.

And the fact that The Last Jedi's title is spoken in the movie isn't the only title-based record it holds within the Skywalker Saga.

As fans know, 'the last Jedi' is also mentioned in the opening crawl of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which marks the only occasion where the title of a different Star Wars movie appears in the opening crawl of another movie.

Sure, we imagine Rian Johnson would prefer his movie to hold the record of most-loved Star Wars movie, or something similar, but at least he's got these records to fall back on.

The entire Star Wars Skywalker Saga is available to watch on Disney+. You can also own the Saga on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD.
