Horizon Forbidden West
Guerilla Games and Sony have announced a new edition of State of Play that will focus on Horizon Forbidden West. The broadcast begins on Thursday at 6 p.m. with a special countdown on YouTube and Twitch. The main event can be seen there from 11 p.m. Among other things, fans can look forward to the first PS5 gameplay of the successor to Horizon Zero Dawn.According to the PlayStation Blog, the State of Play has a total length of 20 minutes. A total of 14 minutes of this will be about brand new in-game material from Horizon Forbidden West for PS5. During the rest of the time, the makers of Guerilla Games will present further highlights from the upcoming game. The release for the title may then also be available. At the moment, the sequel is still planned for the end of 2021.

There are not too many details about the game yet. The story about protagonist Aloy will this time be set in the western United States. In the trailer for Horizon Forbidden West at the time, for example, there was a Golden Gate Bridge overgrown with plants. As part of the State of Play, Guerilla Games will probably reveal a lot of new information about the game. While the broadcast will revolve exclusively around the PS5 version, the release of Horizon Forbidden West is also planned for PS4. Incidentally, the predecessor was also released for the PC last year. You can find more details in our test.

‘Horizon Forbidden West’ Getting A PS5 State Of Play This Week
Horizon Forbidden West
GuerillaSo far as we know, Horizon Forbidden West is on track to be PlayStation 5’s big fall release for Sony, and given that we’re approaching E3, which Sony is not attending, virtually or otherwise, it’s time to start dishing out info about it in some form.
That will be happening this week with a special State of Play focused entirely on Horizon Forbidden West. It will be on Thursday, May 27 at 2 PM PT/5 PM ET.
The State of Play will be 20 minutes long and of that, 14 minutes will be new gameplay footage captured directly from PS5. Here’s what a new blog post has to say about the upcoming event:
“This reveal has been a true team effort and we’re very excited to show you what we have in store. Whether you’ve been with us and Aloy since Horizon Zero Dawn or are only just getting to know this incredible world, we want to share this huge milestone with you and cannot wait to see your favorite moments and reactions.”
Horizon Forbidden West
SonyThis is, in effect, what a big on-stage E3 presentation probably would have featured in the past, but given Sony’s distaste for E3 the past few years, it make sense they would separate it out for its own event like this. I would still expect a larger, more E3-like event to come, but if so, it may no longer need to feature Horizon Forbidden West after this. I would also assume we’re going to be getting a release date at the end of all this, provided it hasn’t been delayed.
It remains unlikely that even though Sony originally said God of War 2 would be out in 2021, that it’s actually happening, as we’ve heard nothing about it since then. I would expect to see something from that game at a future showing, but also that it’s moving to 2022 or later. Horizon Forbidden West feels like enough to anchor a fall release slate for Sony, even if it’s competing against a powerhouse like Halo Infinite (provided that doesn’t get delayed again). Two very different games, but it seems obvious that a new Horizon will be a hit after the performance of the first game. In the more near-term, we have Ratchet and Clank coming out soon, and we just saw the release of Returnal, as Sony has scheduled out its array of exclusives pretty well in the first year of the PS5 here.
We’ll see what the gameplay has to offer on Thursday, and as a huge fan of the original, I’m looking forward to seeing how the sequel has evolved. Stay tuned for more.
