The new products are identical in all respects to the previous ones, from the packaging to the aesthetics. We don't know for sure if NVIDA has defined specific guidelines on how manufacturers should label new graphics cards or if they are free to market them as they wish. In the case of Galax, the manufacturer has added the letters “FG” to the model name.

Obviously, companies will have to update or publish new pages on their websites dedicated to revised graphics cards. For example, Galax specifically mentions that the GeForce RTX 3080 Black General [FG] uses the GA102-202 (LHR) chip and that Ethereum mining performance is limited to around 43 MH / s. The GeForce RTX 3070 Black General [FG], on the other hand, now uses the GA104-302 (LHR) GPU with a limited Ethereum hash rate of 25MH / s. NVIDIA is rumored to ship the new Ampere chips to its partners in mid-May, so we could presumably see the new graphics card models on store shelves by June at the latest.

So far, the GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 are the only variants that will implement an anti-mining system. NVIDIA has presumably left out the GeForce RTX 3090 because it is simply too expensive to be relevant for the mining market as well. On the contrary, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti proved to be a monster in this area from a recent leak.

The latest move in the battle to make the best graphics cards less alluring to crypto miners is lowering hash rates. We've seen companies like NVIDIA try this in the past with little success, but Galax is the next company to try it. Galax will release variants of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 and 3080 with anti-mining limiters.

The LHR variants of the RTX 3070 and 3080 appear to have roughly half the hash rate of the standard models. The RX 6700 XT is a more budget-friendly option for mining, but it doesn't stack up to the best mining GPUs.

If Galax can successfully make its GPUs poor options for crypto mining, it could result in graphics cards being more available to gamers. It's almost impossible to purchase a high-end GPU at the moment, and that's in large part due to crypto mining.
