The Queen's Golden Wii
Do you fancy the Queen's golden Nintendio Wii? In 2009 publisher THQ generated a lot of attention with the party game Big Family Games. Not, as some might suspect, because it was an outstanding game, but rather because of a clever marketing stunt. For the party game, THQ made a gold Nintendo Wii and sent the extravagant game console to Queen Elizabeth II - but it never arrived! YouTube channel "People Make Games" went on the hunt for clues and said the console was now in the hands of Donny Fillerup, a collector in the Netherlands. Also interesting: Is that how the Switch Pro looks?
Fillerup already owns more than 280 playground equipment, including the 24-carat Wii. According to Fillerup, he never used the console itself, mostly because the "game that comes with it is not really good". A matching jump back to 2009, when THQ Product Manager Danielle Robinson had the following to say for the Royal Family:
"BIG Family Games is the ultimate Wii (buy now) game to get all family members, from grandparents to young children, playing together. The Royal Family is arguably the most important family in the country so we felt that they had to have a copy of the new game. But we thought that Her Majesty the Queen wouldn't want to play on any old console, so an extra-special gold one was commissioned. We hope that she and the rest of the Royal Family enjoy the game! "
