GTA 6 supposedly takes place in the present - because of GTA Online

Although GTA 6 has still not been officially presented by Rockstar Games, rumors about the next open world title have surfaced regularly over the past few months. And also this week, the well-known insider Tom Henderson commented on the project. In detail, it is about the supposed setting of Grand Theft Auto 6.

On Twitter it is said that the successor is probably located today and therefore not - as previously claimed - in the 80s will play. Tom Henderson also provided a reason why Rockstar should have opted for a modern setting. Accordingly, GTA Online should bring in more money if it takes place in the present. Even if the insider has always provided very reliable information in the past - especially from the Call of Duty universe - you should treat the rumors with caution. When Rockstar will talk about GTA 6 remains unclear.

It wasn't until March that publisher Take-Two revealed that Rockstar is solely responsible for announcing the next game. The release of GTA 5 for PS3 and Xbox 360 was almost eight years ago. The open-world title, which has meanwhile sold over 140 million copies, will also appear for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S later this year. The release is planned for the second half of the year.
