Activision has confirmed the arrival of a new Call of Duty in 2021, however the publisher has not revealed other details on the matter, stating that more information on the game will be disseminated over the next few months, presumably between spring and summer. But what can we expect from the new COD?
According to some recent rumors, 2021 should be the year of Sledgehammer Games' return to the helm of COD after giving way to Treyarch (Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War) and Infinity Ward (Call of Duty Modern Warfare). The last episode of the saga edited by Sledgehammer was Call of Duty WWII in 2017, positively received by audiences and critics, later Activision revised the structure of the studios working on Call of Duty by adding Raven Software as a support team and changing the rotation of teams at work to give each studio more time to work on individual projects.
Sledgehammer could propose a sequel to Call of Duty WWII or a sequel to Advanced Warfare, although the latter has not been accepted in way too warm by critics at the time of release. Furthermore, the birth of a new sub-series should not be ruled out, even if this hypothesis does not seem to find fertile ground among the insiders.
The only certainty, as also reiterated by Activision, is that Call of Duty Warzone does not will be abandoned, the Battle Royale will therefore continue to be an integral part of the COD experience with the next game in the series.
