A new report from Ampere Analysis analyzes the sales of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S from launch to today, the analysis highlights how the Sony console is selling more than the Microsoft platform and provides some pretty interesting data.
Xbox Series X / S would have placed 2.8 million consoles by November, about 100,000 units less than the Xbox One which in the same period had reached 2.9 million units. Sony has instead sold 4.2 million PS5s, numbers in line with those of PlayStation 4 in the same time frame.
Note how Ampere expressly speaks of consoles sold to consumers, on the contrary, the most recent Sony report spoke of 4.5 million PS5 consoles distributed to resellers. According to the analysis, PlayStation 5 could have sold over five million pieces to date in case of regular stocks. Ampere expects PS5 to reach 7.6 / 8 million consoles sold by the end of March, surpassing the 7.5 million PS4s distributed as of March 31, 2014.
As for Microsoft, Xbox Series X is facing the same problems PS5 as far as production and distribution are concerned, however, it must be said that for the Redmond house this is not a problem since the company is focusing its resources and consumer attention towards the Game Pass.
Between the two litigators the third enjoys as they say and Ampere underlines the excellent performance of Nintendo Switch with 26.3 million consoles sold during 2020.
