By following the main storyline, you can gain a lot of experience, more than enough to get by on the lower difficulty levels. There are however many different ways to get more of it, which can be incredibly useful for anyone who has opted for the ultimate difficulty.
Decipher the Monoliths
The Monoliths scattered along Lara's journey are not only sources of treasure, but also excellent sources of experience. Deciphering them, however, requires a high level of linguistic knowledge, which in turn can be acquired by analyzing the Documents, Murals and Relics hidden in the jungle and other settings. Each of these actions will reward you in turn with experience points. As you may have guessed, exploring in Shadow of the Tomb Raider is as enjoyable as it is important.Challenges and Side Missions
Each chapter of Shadow of the Tomb Raider includes Special Challenges whose completion guarantees a lot of experience points. These challenges range from collecting a certain number of items to achieving certain objectives. They are totally optional, but absolutely not to be underestimated. Same thing goes for secondary missions. The latter, unlike the challenges, become available to non-player characters only after several hours of play, once they have reached the main hub. You can keep track of both the Challenges and the Side Missions from the dedicated sections of the Main Menu.Complete the Tombs of the Challenge
The Tombs of the Challenge are well-hidden areas within the complex environments, designed to test the skills of the players, both in platforming and puzzle solving. Although completing the Tombs does not reward you with experience points, it does grant access to particular Abilities that were previously foreclosed.
