PC market: record of deliveries for Chromebooks
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the habits of workers and students, forced to adopt distance learning and smart working. The consequences are clearly visible in the data published by Canalys and relating to PC deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2020 and throughout the year. The percentage increase in Chromebooks, a particular category of notebooks increasingly appreciated by users, stands out in particular.

PC market: record for Chromebooks

According to Canalys data, in the fourth quarter In 2020, 143.7 million PCs (including tablets) were delivered, an increase of 35% compared to the same period of 2019. Considering instead the whole of 2020, the analysis company detected shipments of 458.2 million units with a 17% increase.

All manufacturers included in the global top 5 (Lenovo, Apple, HP, Dell and Samsung) have increased their deliveries. Apple, in particular, has reduced its distance from Lenovo, thanks to the success of the iPad and Mac. Tablets with keyboards, such as Apple's iPad Pro and Samsung's Galaxy Tab S7, are considered professional devices, so they can replace notebooks too. br>
The most interesting data is that relating to Chromebooks. In the fourth quarter, 11.2 million units were delivered, an increase of 287% compared to the same period in 2019. Lenovo increased shipments by 1,766%, Samsung by 630%, Dell by 317% and HP by 235%. The importance given by manufacturers to this type of notebook is evidenced by the numerous announcements made at CES 2021 in Las Vegas.

Google offers specific services for students, so the Chromebook's popularity is set to increase in the coming months. Perhaps for this reason Microsoft has decided to challenge Chrome OS with its Windows 10X.
