The premium brand of the Hyundai house continues to expand its range of Sport Utility Vehicles and, Genesis, seems to intend to challenge the largest companies on a global scale trying to "invade the territory" of one of the largest brands specialized in the production of electric vehicles, such as Tesla. After the great success achieved with the debut of the GV80 and GV70, the brand wants to launch a new model of 100% electric SUV on the market: it is the Genesis JW.
A preview of what could be the new high-wheeled vehicle of the brand, has been revealed thanks to some spy photos. The JW SUV (codenamed) seems to have taken inspiration from the Mint concept unveiled by the brand during the important event of the New York Motor Show in 2019. Furthermore, according to some rumors, it has been speculated that the new Sport Utility Vehicle could be based on the e-GMP platform of the future electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia CV.
concept Mint at the 2019 New York Motor Show The fully electric SUV of the Genesis brand could represent the arrival of a new rival - not only for Infiniti and Lexus - but, as mentioned above, also for the US company of Tesla. The automaker intends to compete with the Elon Musk brand without fear, which is why Genesis will rely on Hyundai's innovative technologies. The e-GMP platform, on which the electric SUV is supposed to be based, is an 800-volt system equipped with two motors and a 72 kWh battery pack. The autonomy should therefore be about 500 km.
However, further improvements are already planned, in fact it is expected that the South Korean battery supplier SK Innovation should develop new cells that could allow a range of 804 km via two quick recharges of 10 minutes each. The JW SUV of the Genesis brand will also be the first ever to be able to be recharged without wires and automated digital payment systems will be guaranteed. Thus, Tesla Model Y, the Mercedes EQB and EQA, the Audi Q4 e-Tron, the Polestar 2 and the BMW iX1 will soon have to deal with a formidable new opponent.
