For the sports department of the Munich brand, 2020 was a particularly busy year that saw the debut of new models, such as the M3 and M4, characterized by a completely revised design that left awe among fans of the brand. BMW has also introduced a vitaminized variant of the M2 to the market, called the M2 CS -Competition Sport-, which will soon be joined by the high-performance M3 Touring station wagon and the M5 CS super sedan.
The latter was unveiled in the past few hours directly by the CEO of the M brand, Markus Flasch, on the official BMW page on Facebook. Compared to the traditional variant (with the initials F90), on the market since 2018 and updated at the beginning of 2020, the Competition Sport version increases the power of the V8 biturbo from 4.4 liters to 635 HP, 30 HP more than the base model.
BMW engineers have also reduced the weight by 70 kg, stopping the balance needle at just over 1800 kg. A decidedly important weight for a car that defines itself as a sports car, however conditioned and amply justified by the imposing dimensions of the super sedan. The interiors also change, now characterized by the presence of only four seats: the rear bench should leave room for two single seats, probably combined with reinforcements for the frame, typical in the most extreme cars of the brand. The front seats, on the other hand, will be similar to the carbon fiber ones of the latest generation M3 and M4.
Completing the long list of updates will be new carbon fiber elements, updated LED headlights and more sophisticated and, finally, a new rich series of exclusive colors. Among the optional equipment, the presence of carbon ceramic brakes, aerodynamic appendages and a specific set-up calibration cannot be excluded.
Price? Still a mystery, but remember that M5 F90 and M5 F90 Competition are respectively available at a price of 122 thousand and 134 thousand euros. No indiscretion on a Touring variant which, if it arrives, could definitely give a hard time to the historic rival of the house of the four rings.
