Playing video games at a professional level is becoming more and more a source of entertainment, which every day attracts millions of spectators around the world, of which 466 thousand in Italy alone. Although esports competitions still take a back seat to classic sports, team athletes are true professionals who train for hours and face international competitions in front of a huge audience that follows them and cheers for them.
The latest data released by Twitter confirm this trend. In the first six months of 2020, gaming-themed conversations on the social network reached an all-time high of over 1 billion tweets.
"Esports are a constantly growing phenomenon on Twitter, with an increasingly involved and receptive audience that has found in Twitter the favorite place to not miss any updates on the teams and players they are passionate about", explains Simone Tomassetti, Twitter's head of strategic partnerships for Southern Europe, Benelux and Scandinavia.
The digital world of the web therefore seems to be increasingly attracted to this universe that moves so many numbers. This agreement is only the latest that the platform has signed with some of the most important sports gaming companies globally and shows a strong interest from Twitter for the future of esports in Italy.
