With the release of PS5, the ninth generation of gaming officially began. But if you thought that all the necessary information would be out before November 19, 2020 - the day the console was officially released worldwide - you were wrong. In a list of official FAQs concerning PS5, there is also an entry regarding VRR support.
For those who don't know, "VRR" is the abbreviation for "Variable Refresh Rate" which indicates the rate of dynamic update of a screen image. The higher the refresh rate, the higher the stability of the images. This is an important feature for gamers, because it allows compatible TVs to adjust the refresh rate based on the game's output, which means that stuttering typically associated with framerate fluctuations can be largely eliminated.
Sony, however, has stated that VRR support will be added with a future firmware update and it is worth mentioning, as written above, that a compatible TV will be required to take full advantage of it. "PS5 hardware supports VRR over HDMI 2.1" as can be read on the official PlayStation site. "After a future system software update, PS5 owners will be able to use the VRR function of compatible TVs when playing games that support VRR." These Sony claims, however, have worried fans a little, as it explicitly says: "games that support VRR", when many assumed that this would be a system-wide default feature.
This would not be the first time that Sony, with its statements, lowers the expectations of fans regarding the much sought after PS5. And you, are you satisfied with this console?
