According to data received on the sales of the new ninth generation consoles, PS5 recorded a higher number than its competitors Xbox Series X | S, in their respective inaugural weeks of launch. Specifically, VG Chartz informs us that Sony sold 1,483,910 PS5 units between November 8th and 14th, compared to the 1,345,386 Xbox Series X | S units sold by Microsoft.
In this comparison, however , it is good to remember that the new generation consoles were introduced on the market at two different times. Xbox Series X | S on November 10, 2020, while the PS5 debut saw two different dates. In the first, that of November 12, 2020, only some countries welcomed the new Sony home console, such as Australia, South Korea, Japan, North America, New Zealand, Singapore, while in the rest of the world PS5 arrived on 19 November 2020.
Considering that in this comparison only the first week of the launch of the two consoles is analyzed, PS5 - which should have been disadvantaged for the minor countries involved in the sale in the initial period - actually recorded a better performance in sales, compared to the Xbox Series X | S, releases worldwide on a single date.
Nonetheless, it is good to confirm that both next-generation consoles have recorded considerable sales figures in their respective launch periods and this is not to be taken for granted, especially for the historical moment we are experiencing. So, although the latest data shows that the PS5 has far exceeded the sales recorded by Series X | S, Microsoft can still be considered largely satisfied with the work done so far. In fact, in the first week of the Xbox Series X | S release, Microsoft sold far more units than the Xbox One launch, recording the biggest launch in Xbox history. However, this is only a first analysis. The ninth generation has just begun and will surely hold us many surprises.
PS5 and Xbox Series X | S may be back soon, keep an eye on these addresses! In the meantime, you can continue to have fun with Nintendo Switch lite, available for purchase on Amazon Italy at the following link.
