Google Meet: work groups for everyone

Google Meet: work groups for everyone
It is the second novelty announced this week for Google Meet: after the one that allows meeting participants to raise their hand to ask to speak, the division into working groups becomes accessible to all. Well, almost all as we will see shortly. We already wrote about the feature last month when it was introduced as an exclusive for the world of schools.

Workgroups on Meet, no longer just for students

Now available for Workspace Essentials, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, G Suite Business, Enterprise and for Education accounts, while not yet for Workspace Business Starter, G Suite Basic, Education and Nonprofits accounts. Below is an animation that explains quite clearly what it is: whoever manages the meeting can decide to divide the participants into subgroups to assign different tasks, without abandoning it and without having to start others.

In the post announcing the news, other new features added to Google Meet in relation to work groups are mentioned:

participants can ask for help when they are inside with requests monitored and managed by the organizers; these are able to set a predefined time after which the members of a subgroup rejoin the main meeting; now even those who join a meeting via voice call can be assigned to a workgroup (within a couple of weeks the same will apply to anonymous users). Yet another demonstration of how bigG is constantly working to improve the service, also taking inspiration from what the competition does (even Microsoft Teams has its Breakout Rooms), in order to meet the needs expressed in the field of smart working, distance learning and, more generally, remote communication.
